New or Old Vanguard? 3 Organizational Business Structures

Welcome Powerful MLM'ers (And Affiliates),

Whether new or seasoned, this blog will always bring you the most recent marketing updates at online levels but it will sometimes pull in offline content.

Today's post asks you who you are in your life and who are you in your marketing?  Do you take an open position with people or are you more guarded?  This post talks about 3 kinds of organizational business structures revealing how you may largely motivate, think and act.  Read on to find out are you a new or old vanguard thinker or do you fall somewhere in-between?

I ask you because did you know --

network marketers and affiliate marketers are really one and the same?

Here's why.  When offline marketers pull in online marketing, they become what's called a new hybrid marketer.  So..., they also incorporate affiliate marketing to support back end residual MLM.

If you're sincerely interested in learning 21st-Century marketing, you must first define who and what you are NOT before you actively zero in on who you are.

I'm going to list the main ingredients defining group organizations, by structure..., and then I'll get into a few mindsets talking about how people relate to one another in those structures.  This article is not about people being defined and separated by gender, race, color, creed, or religion... but they can be united or separated by belief systems.  So yes.., this is an interesting topic because we are now seeing that there's increased tension between old business and a grid-locked system, no matter where you live.  What's being demanded by people more and more is independence and the freedom to act accordingly in their businesses.  Is there a SHIFT underway?  Perhaps.  If we tackle the emerging consciousness in people and societies, folks who've long held power are now being questioned. I tap into MBA content typically not shared with the masses. The first organization is hierarchy.  We'll call it the older vanguard or maybe an Industrial-Aged mindset where old marketing techniques are generally being shared.  I call this "horse and buggy marketing"...dating back to farming communities where MLM worked fabulously well into those sectors, but they later spread into new housing developments called suburbia during the 1950's.

Old Vanguard - Centralized Power

Hierarchical power, where the mindset usually involves:

  • Secrecy of information
  • Few players win and benefits for everyone involved are subject to key decision-maker's policy. Final decision lies within the hands of the few, key decision-makers.
  • Tight controls of sensitive content (copyrights, non-disclosure agreements, and more)
  • Little to no open flow of information or multi-leveled communication
  • Controlled interest
  • Limited use of power (called chief power bases)
  • Management of people
  • Innovation, creativity (thinking outside of the box) is discouraged
  • Fear prevails at the center of business activity and management.
Organizational Hierarchy  (Structure of Corporation)

For a long time, I did not specifically understand what hierarchy meant until I went to graduate business school, Masters of Business Administration (MBA content).  Then.., this content really opened my eyes because the truth of the matter is that corporate America controls our educational system..in that they demand schools and colleges create new workers.  Can you find many classes on entrerpeneurism?  Usually, you have to go out into the public sector to get that training...often at your own expense.

I will tell you that a New Revolution is emerging online. AND..., I am more reluctant these days to give my power away to any one person or organization.  That's where leadership of yourself is heavily warranted.  But..read on.

Hiererchical structure (pyramid) -- whether legal or not, it can or may not include some type of rank system where you work your way up that ladder.  There is a real ceiling on promotion where the general organizational structure of power, ethics, and business profits reside.

In cases where you see corporations structuring control, key decision-making, and power, those organizational elements reside at the top.  The power lives within the hands of a few people where it is centralized.  You will see it residing in the hands of a president and vice president, most often.  The flow of information moves in one direction and sometimes two  ....where the president gets information from central managers and the V.P., but that information will relate to all aspects of corporate policy, management of profits, and distribution of corporate resources.  The flow of information will typically move between one, two or three key decision makers, but the power in hierarchy usually moves from the bottom ... up.  It flows from front line employees.., up to central management, then up to the top.  A hierarchy can work if it balances power, but in most cases, it does not work well for everyone involved.

Why do you need to know this.  It affects your life in very big ways.  It impacts how you set up, manage and direct business activities within your own organization. When you understand how power and decision-making occurs, you are less likely to accept "whatever anyone hands you on a silver platter".  OR..., better stated... , when you allow the open flow of information between all players involved, the odds of more people winning than losing within that group are greatly increased.

You are now here at a critical point in human history where the power is slowly shifting back into the hands of people. How?  Include the Internet. More will be clear in due time.

NOTE:  Stick to this blog and I will reveal more.

New Vanguard -- Decentralized Power & Partial But Open Collaboration

Hybrid Organization -- Combination of old and new mindsets
  • Information generally flows within and outside of the organization
  • Some players invest and there can be multiple wins built into employee benefits where key-decision makers will go to their workers for input. Final decisions may reside with senior management.
  • Some controls on sensitive content
  • Some flow or multi-channeled communication
  • Open and controlled interests
  • Diffuse organization but still carries some elements related to a hierarchy where control of power still sits in the hands of key decision-makers (defined below)
  • more use of power at higher, mid and lower levels (decentralized chief power bases)
  • managing people in ways where innovation and creativity or thinking outside of the box is encouraged as long as it ties into overall organizational goals and strategies
  • less fear, more nurturance of creativity and innovation residing at all employee levels..., bottom, middle, and top of business activity and management.

New Vanguard -- Diffuse Power, Open Collaboration, Shared Interests

Organic Organization -- Harley Davidson (example)
  • Information flows within and outside of the organization
  • All players invest and actively contribute to win
  • Fewer controls on sensitive content, all players included in decision-making
  • Open flow and multi-channeled communications circulating in and between departments
  • Open interests with fewer controls
  • Decentralized power..., structure is flat and power is spread between departments
  • Diffuse organization, no hierarchical control, equalized power sits in the hands of everyone involved (defined below)
  • Use of power at all levels (power bases don't exist as readily here)
  • Management of people appears in ways where innovation, creativity, and thinking outside of the box is encouraged as long as it ties into overall organizational goals and strategies
  • More nurturance of creativity and innovation residing at all employee levels of business activity and management.
More businesses are appearing at organic levels where employees share an equal stake in the business. Hybrids remain as long as profits are healthy and information moves across channels.  Moving in New Economy directions, old vanguard business management is less effective.  You can see hierarchy in many places: schools, universities, multi-level marketing, hospitals, military systems, nternational organizations, and  churches residing at local, regional, national, and international levels.  Many tech companies still favor hierarchy.

Examples of hybrid structures appear at non-profit organizational levels.

Examples of organic structures appear in companies where employees invest in corporate activities when there is a commonly shared interest.  They can appear in mom and pop companies...., but they will also appear in non-profits.  Organic structures are most popular in medium-sized corporations where diffuse power produces higher profits.  Google is most likely a hybrid organization.

Bottom Line Conclusions

NOTE:  If you tend to be a late adopter for anything by waiting for things to happen..., you'll get that result.

In organizations of hierarchy, change is not usually embraced until changes are forced upon that organization.

In hybrid organizations, they pull in collaborationth when they see the inherent value of change... as that change brings with it new creativity, new awareness, and heightened innovation.  These realities are what make corporations more successful as they complete within the global marketplace.

To be a true power in your life, you must be, think and act in a forward way.  Do the work and research.  Don't wait for others to do that work for you.  Never accept what anyone tells you at face value.  Confirm it for yourself firsthand..., then pull in your real life experience to guide the way.

Reach out and look for people who make solid sense.  Are potential business partners open to collaboration?  Will they share findings and new business information?  If not, you're most likely dealing with a hierarchical mindset.

Find out what works well, see how your findings will maximize outcomes for more people involved..., see how nurturing and supporting the public good makes sense to you. Then..., try something radical like doing the right thing for all involved. Chances are, you'll do better in business, you're be around longer, and you'll be far more influential with people who sincerely want to learn right along with you and not just from you.  We stand at the threshold of something new, profound, and very exciting!

Please post your comments and/or suggestions.

P. S.  Staying quiet doesn't do a bit of good for anyone if you can't reach out.  Ask what's happening...get qualified help and know that there are some amazing people building their businesses online.  As a final note, I will never ask anyone to do something they don't want to do.  In these articles, I only pull in legitimate business content and White-Hat (legal and ethical) marketing. No Grey or Black Hat marketing is ever recommended.
